MOSCOW. Sept 10 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Navy confirms the September 7 smoke incident onboard the Moskva cruiser of the Black Sea Fleet.
"Media claims of an alleged explosion are wrong. There was smoke in an auxiliary unit of the cruiser on September 7. The source of the smoke was quickly found and contained. No one was hurt," the Navy said.
Meanwhile, a source at the Navy staff told Interfax, the accident occurred while the ship was anchored at the base.
"The auxiliary unit is totally unrelated to ship armaments," the source said.
A Sevastopol source told Interfax on Wednesday that about a dozen of sailors were hurt in a fire onboard the Black Sea Fleet flagship.
He said the fire occurred on September 7 but did not say why it happened.
The Black Sea Fleet representative refuted the report. "The cruiser is all right. Claims of an alleged accident are wrong," fleet spokesman Andrei Krylov told Interfax on Wednesday.
