MOSCOW. Sept 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has thanked Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez for his decision to recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
"Thank you Hugo, you have made a whole set of serious, important statements," Medvedev said while meeting with Chavez in his residence in the Moscow region on Thursday.
"The idea of recognizing the two new states has just been voiced," Medvedev said.
Venezuela is the third country to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia, after Russia and Nicaragua.
