Kazakhstan detains six Russians suspected of poaching

ASTANA. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Kazakhstan's National Security Committee's coastguard detained six Russian citizens in the Caspian Sea on Wednesday on suspicion of poaching in Kazakhstan's territorial waters, the Committee reported.

The crew of the patrol vessel Safe Boat and the coastguard ship Astana detained two Baida-type vessels with six Russian crewmembers while on a mission to protect the Kazakh state border and the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea," the Committee said on Thursday.

The Russian crews "engaged in poaching" and they had no ID papers, the committee said.

An inquiry was launched into the incident.
