Officer wounded in skirmish with militants in Chechnya

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Unidentified attackers fired upon a checkpoint near the village of Yandy in the Achkhoi-Martan district of Chechnya, at which Russian Defense Ministry servicemen are deployed, a law enforcement source told Interfax.

A company leader was wounded and hospitalized, he said.

Policemen were also involved in an armed clash with members of illegal armed units in a forest near Duba-Yurt in the Shali district.

"The incident occurred at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A local resident, a member of an illegal armed unit, was neutralized in a skirmish with up to eight militants," the source said.

None of the troops were harmed. A Kalashnikov assault rifle, an RGD-5 grenade, and 180 7.62-mm cartridges were found at the scene, the source said.
