Indian defense minister to arrive in Moscow to discuss cooperation

MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Indian Defense Minister Arakkaparambil Kurian Antony is arriving in Moscow on Tuesday to attend the 9th meeting of the Russian-Indian intergovernmental commission for military-technical cooperation.

Antony will stay in Moscow until October 15 and he will meet with Russian Foreign Minister Anatoly Serdyukov, the Russian Defense Ministry has informed Interfax.

The Indian government earlier said in a press release that the joint commission would discuss the extension of the long-term bilateral program for military-technical cooperation for another ten years - from 2011 to 2020, as well as the implementation of the current program.

Another issue is the creation of the BrahMos 2 cruise missile, and the installation of BrahMos missiles on Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jets in service in the Indian air force.

India would like the work to create a fifth-generation fighter jet to be completed by 2016, so it could get them in 2017, according to the press release.

The Press Trust of India reported, citing the Indian defense ministry, that Antony plans to sign a new contract on the aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov while in Moscow.
