Russian helicopter service center created in Afghanistan

MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax-AVN) - The Helicopters of Russia holding and the firm Airfreight Aviation will open a center to provide maintenance services to Russian civilian helicopters used in the international Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

"This center will start working in late November or early December," Oleg Borisov, director of the Airfreight Aviation aviation department, told Interfax.

"We are already providing services to almost 20 helicopters there, observing all technical regulations and requirements. Most of these helicopters belong to our partners," Borisov said.

By the end of this year, it is planned to expand the operations of the center, making its services accessible to all operators of Russian helicopters in Afghanistan," Borisov said.

Most of the Russian helicopters used by the coalition forces in Afghanistan are Mi series helicopters (Mi-8T, Mi-8MT, Mi-8MTV, and Mi-171), he said.
