VEDENO, Chechnya. Oct 15 (Interfax-AVN) - A base of illegal militant groups was destroyed in a mountainous region in southern Chechnya, and an active member of these groups was killed, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov told Interfax at the scene of a special operation.
"A special operation has been carried out in a forest near the community of Eshilkhatoi since early morning," Kadyrov said. Various police and security forces are involved in the special operation, he said.
"A base was found in the forest. It was equipped to accommodate 10- 15 people for a long time in winter conditions. The base has been destroyed. An active member of illegal militant groups has also been killed," he said.
Measures are being taken to block the group and eliminate it, Kadyrov said. There are grounds to presume that some of the group's members were wounded, as calls for help were heard from the forest, he said.
The dead militant was identified as Turpal-ali Mutalipov, a Vedeno resident.
"The operation is continuing. It was thoroughly planned and will continue until the exposed gang of thugs is fully destroyed," he said.
