MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia and Brunei consider the military area as the most promising for cooperation and intend to conclude a relevant agreement, says a joint Russian-Bruneian statement circulated following Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei's visit to Moscow.
During negotiations between the two leaders, they spoke in favor of concluding a military cooperation agreement following the negotiations that are currently under way.
The parties pointed out that their interaction in the energy area is promising and agreed to step up cooperation in this field.
Medvedev and Hassanal welcomed an agreement between the two governments on mutually abrogating visa formalities for the holders of diplomatic and service passports.
The sultan invited Medvedev to visit Brunei Darussalam. The Russian leader accepted the invitation, and the dates of the visit will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.
Medvedev and Hassanal also commented on the situation on the Korean Peninsula and the Middle East. Russia and Brunei support the international efforts to secure a peaceful political settlement of the nuclear problem of the Korean Peninsula at the negotiating table and call for resuming the six-party negotiating process, the document says.
The two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to achieving a comprehensive, durable, and fair settlement of the Middle East conflict. Russia and Brunei Darussalam recognize the Palestinian people's inalienable rights and insist on adhering to international resolutions demanding that the occupation of Arab territories be stopped, the statement says.
