MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax-AVN) - Rosoboronexport is broadening exports of Russian armaments and military hardware to Latin America, Southeast Asia, the Middle and Near East and North Africa, Rosoboronexport Director General Anatoly Isaikin said in an interview to be published in the October 23 issue of the magazine VIP Premier.
"We are actively seeking new markets, primarily Latin America. We have signed contracts with Venezuela, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Brazil and Cuba. There are good chances to export arms to Chile, Uruguay and Ecuador," he said.
Rosoboronexport continues mutually beneficial cooperation with Southeast Asia, namely Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia, as well as with the Middle and Near East and North Africa, he said.
In all, the company deals with about 70 countries. Previously, up to 80% of the deliveries were made to India and China. Algeria, Venezuela, Malaysia, Indonesia and some other countries joined in. Now the leading buyers of Russian armaments are India, Algeria, Venezuela, China, Egypt and Vietnam, Isaikin said.
The structure of Russian military exports did not change much, he said. The best selling item is aircraft (55% of all trade). Anti-aircraft missile systems come next with 17.4%. Army weaponry (15.1%), navy weaponry (9.1%) and other types of weaponry (2.4%) follow.
