Assassination attempt on Chechen President Kadyrov prevented in Grozny

GROZNY. Oct 25 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechen security services prevented an assassination attempt on Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov and State Duma Deputy Adam Delimkhanov in Grozny on Friday evening.

"When State Duma deputy Delimkhanov arrived at the territory of a memorial complex under construction and was waiting for the Chechen president, who should have arrived in several minutes, a VAZ-2114 car with Ingush license plates tried to break through to the construction site's territory at a high speed," Chechen Deputy Interior Minister Roman Edilov told Interfax.

"Officers noticed a metal container. Despite a warning shot into the air, the car did not stop, after which a sniper fired and killed the driver," Edilov said.

"A 200-kilo container with wires protruding from it was found in the car," Edilov said.

A bomb disposal unit arrived at the scene and is trying to defuse the bomb, he said.

"The driver's identity has not yet been determined," he said.

"The president of the Chechen republic has said that, the law enforcement officers' skillful actions helped prevent possible numerous casualties among officials and construction workers. An investigation is under way," he said.
