MOSCOW. Oct 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will take part in a Russia-EU summit in Stockholm on November 18, although this was a difficult decision for him, said presidential aide Sergei Prikhodko.
"This was a difficult decision that took a long time, because it is widely known that statements by some Sweden politicians included anti- Russian aspects. However, some EU countries applied massive pressure on Russia," Prikhodko told journalists.
"We accepted this pressure as normal and believed it was positive. This is acceptable pressure aimed at improving our relations," he said.
"Russia has decided to take part in the summit. However, we believe now that responsibility for a constructive course of the summit rests with all those who called for holding it," he said.
"This was a difficult choice for Russia, as Moscow was not sure that the summit would be constructive, because the Swedish foreign minister's statements [about Russia] were not always correct," Prikhodko said.
While in Stockholm, Medvedev might meet with the king of Sweden and possibly with the Swedish prime minister, he said.
