Caspian border services pledge to fight terrorism jointly

MOSCOW. Nov 26 (Interfax-AVN) - The Caspian countries' border services have agreed to combat terrorism and deal with other threats jointly.

"The participants in the meeting agreed that coordinated measures must be made in order to deal with the new challenges and threats, including international terrorism, illegal migration, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, illicit drug trade and contraband, and other crimes, the Russian Federal Security Service said in a statement on Wednesday after the first meeting of the Caspian border service chiefs in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The meeting was attended by the heads of the state border services of Azerbaijan, of the Iranian border police, the border service of the Kazakh National Security Committee, the FSB's border service and the state border service of Turkmenistan. The Russian delegation was led by First Deputy Director of the FSB border service, General of the Army Vladimir Pronichev.

A final document was signed, which "confirms the Caspian border services' readiness to cooperate, and charts further steps to strengthen and broaden cooperation," the FSB said.
