Military monuments in Tashkent dismantled for reconstruction - embassy

MOSCOW. Nov 26 (Interfax-AVN) - Uzbek authorities have dismantled exhibits from the Military Glory Park in Tashkent for restoration, a source at the Uzbek embassy in Russia told Interfax on Thursday.

"The exhibits have not been restored since the 1970s," the source added.

He said the exhibits would be returned to their permanent locations after the reconstruction.

"In commemoration of heroes of WW2, Uzbekistan is reconstructing military monuments and building new ones practically in every city, district and even village," he said.

"The Tashkent Armed Forces Museum is being reconstructed in preparations for the 65th anniversary of victory in the WW2," the source said.

The media said earlier that Uzbekistan had allegedly decided to dismantle monuments, which failed to meet the modern view of Uzbek history.
