MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax-AVN) - United Russia shares public concerns over the situation around the Interior Ministry and is willing to jointly look for ways of changing it for the better, the party leaders said.
"Together with our country's President Dmitry Medvedev we share the public concerns over the negative instances that are taking place, we are not ignoring the problem. We believe that we all need to look for a solution, how to change the situation for the better," United Russia's Presidium Secretary Vyacheslav Volodin was quoted as saying by the party's press office on Thursday.
The party disagrees with the proposal made a day earlier by State Duma member Andrei Makarov who suggested that the Interior Ministry be eliminated, and sees this statement as the MP's personal view, Volodin said.
The Interior Ministry cannot be reformed, with police now being feared more than criminals, Makarov told a press conference at the Interfax head office on Wednesday. "The Interior Ministry cannot be modernized or reformed, it can only be eliminated," he said.
"The party sees and understands the problems existing within the Interior Ministry. But we cannot approach this irresponsibly by saying, "We do not need the ministry," Volodin said.
"[The Interior Ministry] is hundreds of thousands of policemen, and we do not have any other police," he said.
