Council of Europe secretary general calls for responsible attitude to memory of WWII victims

MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland has warned against attempts to use history to provoke new problems in Europe.

At a Wednesday press conference at the Interfax central office Thorbjorn commented on the demolition of a World War II memorial in Georgia where he said it should not be permitted that history be used to create new problems in Europe.

Everyone should regard World War II with great feeling and understanding, he said.

It should be realized by all that many people gave up their lives fighting the Nazi regime, he said.
