GROZNY, Chechnya. Jan 12 (Interfax-AVN) - Chechnya recorded no violent activities by militants during Russia's national holiday season over the first ten days of January, Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov said.
"I have heard a detailed report from the heads of law enforcement agencies. It proves that police and personnel serving at other agencies were able to ensure complete order and public security during the ten days of festivities," Kadyrov told reporters.
No city, region or country is safe against terrorism, Kadyrov said.
"But we should compare what it was like in the republic with what it is like now. Quite recently there were thousands of Wahhabis [members of a puritanical Muslim sect] and terrorists here. They have been routed. There are remnants. There aren't many of them. But any bandit who is plotting a terrorist act or another serious crime poses a public threat, and so the Interior Ministry for the Chechen Republic jointly with the Administration [for Chechnya] of the Federal Security Service (FSB) are taking exhaustive measures to locate and neutralize them," he said.
"The main point is that the bandits have no social basis. The people don't support them and that is obvious," Kadyrov said.
