ASTANA. Jan 14 (Interfax) - Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has once again urged OSCE member countries to hold an organization summit in 2010.
"The ten-year pause in OSCE summits shows that the consensus fundamentals of the organization are in stagnation, not to say in crisis. Thus, we request all OSCE member states to support the Kazakh initiative to hold the summit in 2010," he said in a video address posted on the website of the Kazakh chair of the OSCE.
The summit could discuss security in the OSCE zone, Afghanistan and tolerance, Nazarbayev said.
"Time has come for the leaders of OSCE member countries to display political will and to respond to challenges their countries are facing," he said.
"The summit will not only spur on the OSCE adaptation to modern threats and challenges but will also build up confidence and respect of our peoples to the organization," he said.
Besides, the summit could mark the 35th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, the 20th anniversary of the Paris Charter and the 65th anniversary of the end of the WW2, he said.
