CHISINAU. Jan 21 (Interfax) - At a meeting with Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Victor Osipov on Wednesday Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin confirmed Russia's principled appraoch to the settlement of the problem of Transdniestria through recognizing the special status of the area in conditions of the observance of the territorial integrity and neutrality of Moldova.
At the Moldovan government press service Interfax was told that Karasin "stressed the importance of consistently promoting confidence-building measures and strengthening ties between the residents of two banks of the Dnestr."
"He also said that Russia is interested in continuing Moldovan-Russian consultations at different levels on the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict," the press service said.
In his turn Osipov noted that on the issue of Transdniestria the Moldovan government is guided by two priority objectives - "working out a viable political solution of reintegrating the country and consistently promoting confidence-building measures."
He spoke for the continuation of the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol at the level of political representatives, giving an impetus to the operations of working groups for building confidence and for the speedy resumption of talks on the 5+2 format.
