ASHGABAT. Jan 25 (Interfax) - Turkmen President and Supreme Commander Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow has approved the Navy development program for the period until 2015.
"The approval of this important document starts serious work on the creation of the national naval force at the Defense Ministry. The naval force will protect national interests in the Caspian Sea," the president said at the Friday meeting of the State Security Council.
"The armed forces must become a pillar of the military-political strategy of the Turkmen state, which is based on the military doctrine adopted last year with due account of the neutral status of the country and the peaceful foreign policy," the president said.
