Russia ready to supply arms to Iraq, Afghanistan if requested by U.S. (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Jan 28 (Interfax-AVN) - Rosoboronexport is ready to supply armaments to Iraq and Afghanistan if the go-ahead is given by the U.S., Rosoboronexport Director General Anatoly Isaikin said.

"Representatives of the Iraqi and Afghan Armed Forces have asked us for arms. We are ready to make the delivery. If the decision is made and funds are assigned, we will do that," he told reporters on Thursday.

The U.S. administration makes decisions about possible arms shipments to Iraq and Afghanistan, Isaikin said.

"That is the money of U.S. taxpayers. The two states receive armaments via the U.S. procurements committee," he said.

Earlier reports said that Afghan and Iraqi servicemen were interested in buying a large number of Russian helicopters that perform well in warm climates.
