MOSCOW. Feb 24 (Interfax) - Three officers of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department were arrested while receiving a bribe of two million rubles they had demanded in exchange for the release of two young women detained earlier on suspicion of selling drugs, a source in the city's law enforcement services told Interfax on Wednesday.
"Detectives of the Moscow Criminal Investigation Department detained two sisters, aged 19 and 30 years old, whom they accused of selling drugs, in Troitsk outside Moscow on February 20. The women were not allowed to leave the officers' cars for several hours. The officers demanded that their relatives pay a bribe of two million rubles in exchange for their release," the source said.
The detectives were detained while receiving the money from the women's relatives, he added.
Moscow police officials have so far been unavailable for comment.
