Medvedev, Merkel discuss bilateral, intl issues by telephone

MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and German Chancellor Angela Merkel had a telephone conversation to discuss a number of issues on the bilateral and international agenda, the Kremlin has reported on Thursday.

"In particular, significance has been attached to organizational aspects of the ceremonial events in Moscow to honor the 65th anniversary of the victory over fascism, in which a number of foreign chiefs of states have expressed the desire to take part," it said.

In discussing international issues, Medvedev and Merkel talked about "cooperation in facilitating progress in resolving such problems as the Middle East peace process, the Iran nuclear problem, global climate change, and others," it said.

Medvedev and Merkel also discussed plans for contacts in bilateral and multilateral formats.
