MOSCOW. Feb 26 (Interfax) - Head of the Russian Federal Labor and Employment Service Yury Gertsy has said he does not see any problems in organizing alternative civilian service for the over 800 citizens who have rejected mandatory military service.
"We don't see any irregularities here. But people doing alternative civilian service complain their pay remains low," Gertsy told an expanded meeting of his agency's senior officials on Friday.
Overall, 818 people are undergoing alternative civilian service in organizations subordinated to the federal and regional governments, he said.
Four hundred and sixty-three applications were filed in 2009 for their mandatory military service to be replaced with alternative civilian service, and 250 people were given such jobs during the spring conscription campaign, he said.
