Moscow to continue diplomatic efforts to settle Iran nuclear crisis

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - A high-placed Russian diplomat confirmed in consultations with representatives of the United Arab Emirates that Moscow adheres to a diplomatic settlement of Iran's nuclear problem.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Saltanov held political consultations in the UAE between March 1-2, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The parties discussed the situation in the Middle East and expressed concern about growing tensions in this region. They also underscored their mutual adherence to further efforts to strengthen the regime of nonproliferation of weapons of mass destruction and to search for a diplomatic solution to the problem of Iran's nuclear program," the foreign ministry said.

The consultations also addressed the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq.

"The sides expressed hope for successful parliamentary elections in Iraq without setbacks, and for further normalization in that country on the basis of national accord between all core political forces," the Russian foreign ministry said.
