MOSCOW. March 9 (Interfax-AVN) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Council of Defense Ministers has appointed Col. Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn as deputy chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, CSTO Press Secretary Vitaly Strugovets told Interfax-AVN on Tuesday.
"Col. Gen. Nogovitsyn's candidacy was put forward by the Russian defense minister. Based on the principle of the quota distribution of positions within the CSTO Joint Staff, the position of the first deputy chief of the Joint Staff is secured for Russia" Strugovets said.
In June 2008 Nogovitsyn was appointed as deputy chief of the Russian General Staff and chairman of the General Staff's military scientific committee. He was assigned the rank of Colonel General in February 2003. He holds a doctorate in military sciences.
First Deputy Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff Lt. Gen. Oleg Latypov was removed from the office and transferred to the Russian Defense Ministry's Central Department for International Military Cooperation, Strugavets added.
