TBILISI. March 29 (Interfax) - The United States plans to help Georgia training the forces sent as part of the international coalition to Afghanistan, Georgian Deputy Defense Minister Nikoloz Vashakidze said.
"The Pentagon is planning to provide serious help to the Baltic States and Georgia, who are sending their forces to Afghanistan. This will primarily involve training and providing equipment to our forces, as well as a number of other details necessary for the successful completion of the international operation," Vashakidze told journalists on Saturday.
The U.S. military aid is aimed at improving the training of Georgian forces participating in the NATO operation in Afghanistan, Georgian Parliamentary Speaker David Bakradze said.
"It is quite natural that our U.S. partners want the Georgian forces sent to Afghanistan to be properly prepared for accomplishing the international anti-terrorist operation," Bakradze said.
