TBILISI. March 29 (Interfax-AVN) - The leader of Georgia's Labor Party on Monday protested at an alleged U.S. plan to deploy an American military contingent in Georgia.
Stationing American troops in Georgia would lead to a definitive fragmentation of the country, Shalva Natelashvili told a news conference in Tbilisi.
He said the U.S. Defense Department had recently notified Congress about a plan to deploy a military force in Georgia. "This is obviously an American-Russian deal with the Saakashvili regime," Natelashvili said.
He said the Labor party is against any foreign military presence in Georgia.
He urged all Georgian political groups to state their positions on this issue.
