Dozens of policemen hurt in Talas riots – ministry

BISHKEK. April 7 (Interfax) - Eighty-five police officers have been hurt as a result of opposition riots in Talas, Kyrgyzstan.

Nineteen officers have been hospitalized, four of them are in intensive care, a Kyrgyz Interior Ministry spokesperson told Interfax on Wednesday.

"Currently, officials from the regional and local administrations, prosecutors and law enforcement are working with the people to explain the situation," the spokesperson said.

Last night police held six people for looting in Talas, he said.

"Carpets, computers and mobile phones were seized from them," the ministry said.

Currently, Kyrgyz law enforcement authorities are taking measures to maintain stability and public safety in the Talas region.
