BISHKEK. April 26 (Interfax) - Deputy head of the Kyrgyz interim government Almazbek Atambayev has thanked Russia for detaining and extraditing to Bishkek former Kyrgyz Interior Minister Modomusa Kongantiyev.
"With the assistance of Russian law enforcement bodies we succeeded in detaining in Moscow the former head of the Interior Ministry, Moldomusa Kongantiyev," Atambayev said at a Monday session of the commission for law and order with the interim government.
"We are grateful to Russia's Federal Security Service for the assistance that it rendered in his detention. Kongantiyev is charged with acting against opposition supporters on April 6-7," Atambayev who heads the commission said.
He said the commission will be dealing with the restoration of law and order, resistance to crime and stopping the actions of instigators "who are fulfilling orders from supporters of the old regime."
