MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - Data from the onboard warning and navigation systems of the Polish presidential airliner that crashed in Russia on April 10, killing then Polish President Lech Kaczynski and nearly 100 others, have been decoded by U.S. and Polish experts, an Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) source said.
"Despite serious physical damage to the units, the entire information was successfully copied and decoded," a source in the MAK's technical commission told Interfax. "The information is being verified and deciphered to put the data in to digital and text modes."
The warning and navigation systems of the Tupolev Tu-154, which crashed near Smolensk, were returned to the MAK on May 9 after being taken to the United States for decoding, and "the investigating commission has started analyzing the preliminary results of the deciphering," the source said.
