Former Moscow Northern District prefect Khardikov detained abroad

MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - A former prefect of Moscow's Northern District, Yury Khardikov, who is charged with stealing 1 billion rubles from Inteco, has been detained abroad, and Russia will be seeking his extradition, the Russian Interior Ministry's Investigative Committee told Interfax.

"Yury Khardikov was detained in a foreign country. Currently, we are considering a request for his extradition to Russia," Committee spokeswoman Irina Dudukina told Interfax on Friday.

She did not specify in which country Khardikov was detained.

In November 2009, the Moscow Tverskoy Court ordered his remand in custody in absentia, investigators from the Moscow Central Police Department (CPD) said earlier

"Khardikov is currently wanted," the police said.

On May 3, 2009, the Moscow CPD Main Investigative Directorate launched a criminal case against Khardikov over the embezzlement of 1 billion rubles from Inteco, media outlets said.

Khardikov has been undergoing medical treatment in Germany for several months now, the newspaper Kommersant said, citing investigators.
