SUKHUMI. May 24 (Interfax) - Abkhazia will open its embassies in Venezuela and Nicaragua in 2010, republic's Foreign Minister Maksim Gvindzhiya said in an interview with the Republic of Abkhazia newspaper.
"Venezuela has provided a building for the Abkhaz diplomatic mission," he said.
Abkhazia will be represented by Zaur Gvadzhava, an Abkhaz citizen who is the coach of the Venezuelan Boxing Olympic team and lives in this country, the Abkhaz foreign minister said.
"Soon an honorable consul of Abkhazia will be appointed to Chile as well," Gvindzhiya said. "When Argentine recognizes Abkhazia, it will have an Abkhaz embassy too," he said.
"All in all, we are planning to open three embassies in South America and to have honorable consuls in other countries," the minister said.
"Each Latin American country has its own way of approaching the issue of recognizing Abkhazia, they do not make decisions together," he said.
"The Cuban decision on Abkhazia's recognition is lying on the surface. We just have to be more patient, because decisions are made slowly in Cuba, they study everything carefully before that," Gvindzhiya said.
