BEIJING. May 25 (Interfax) - China has expressed concern about the situation on the Korean Peninsula, a Chinese Foreign Ministry official said at a briefing on Tuesday.
"Being Korea's closest neighbor, China is concerned about the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula," the official said.
"China has taken note of the statements made by South Korea and North Korea's responses," the diplomat said.
"China wants peace and stability to be maintained on the peninsula, as well as progress in the six-party talks," the diplomat said.
"Dialogue and negotiations are better than tension," the diplomat said. China is hoping that "a solution to the problem can be found" and the parties "will continue to remain calm and restrained," which "is in line with the interests of North [Korea] and South [Korea] and all parties involved," the diplomat said.
