No one hurt in two blasts in Ingushetia’s Malgobek

NAZRAN. June 4 (Interfax) - Two explosions occurred near a World War II monument in the town of Malgobek in Russia's North Caucasus Republic of Ingushetia on Friday.

"Local residents found suspicious items near the foundation of the monument and called the police. Two explosions occurred when a police unit and sappers arrived at the site. No one was killed or injured as a result of the blasts," a spokesman for Ingushetia's Interior Ministry told Interfax.

A few minutes later, an unknown man ran up to police officers, threw a grenade at them and started to fire his pistol.

Policemen fired back, killing the attacker. The grenade thrown by him failed to detonate.

None of the officers were hurt, the spokesman said.

The attacker is now being identified.

In a separate development, unknown men entered a small shop in the center of Malgobek, shot a woman dead who was working there and fled.

A manhunt for them is under way.
