New Security Council Iran resolution takes Russia, China amendments into account – Lavrov (Part 2)

BEIJING. June 4 (Interfax) - The UN Security Council's new resolution on Iran takes Russia and China's amendments into account, which rule out the application of "crippling sanctions," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said.

"Following intensive consultations in the Sextet, provisions aimed at introducing 'crippling sanctions' were crossed out," Lavrov said at a news conference after talks with his Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi.

The Russian foreign minister said that the resolution will, on Russia's initiative, reflect Brazil and Turkey's proposals on the new Iranian nuclear fuel swap deal.

Lavrov also noted that Russia and China's positions on the Iranian nuclear problem coincide and their essence is that the parties prefer the so-called dual-track approach, which implies dialogue as the main solution of Iran's nuclear issue, but at the same time does not rule out UN sanctions.
