OSH. June 11 (Interfax) - Additional forces arrived from Bishkek to Osh this morning and are now moving on armored vehicles towards the center of the city.
The forces are moving on three infantry fighting vehicles and several trucks, an Interfax correspondent said.
There are also two armored personnel carriers and heavy armored vehicles carrying armed servicemen.
The interim government decided to send additional forces as the situation in Osh remains tense and "requires additional measures."
According to eyewitnesses, roads have been blocked in several parts of the city, but crowds of young people are gathering in various parts of Osh trying to get to the center, demolishing and robbing shops on their way.
There have been reports about fires at residential buildings. Police are trying to stop the unrest.
Local residents said that clashes occurred between young people of Kyrgyz and Uzbek ethnicities. Outposts have been installed in the Uzbek part of the city on Friday morning.
A crowd of young men began causing trouble in the early hours of Friday, looting shops and smashing windows in the center of the southern Kyrgyz city of Osh.
The crowd armed with rocks and sticks vandalized several grocery shops and stole bags of food, sources told Interfax.
There are also fires in several parts of the city, eyewitnesses said.
Local residents heard gun shots near the Altai Hotel not far from the city's central market.
A similar alarming situation was present in the town of Uzgen, as well as Karasui and Aravan districts of the Osh region where clashes between young men were registered last night. The law enforcement authorities have so far failed to take the situation in the city under control, they said.
