Siberian military district tests experimental form of military service

MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax-AVN) - An experiment aimed to humanize the military service, in particular through organization of the provision of vital services to troops by civil organizations and introduction of a five-day working week for personnel, is currently underway at the Siberian Military District (SMD), SMD Troops Commander's press secretary Valery Shcheblanin told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

"Today the SMD's Yurga Motor Rifle Brigade has begun a practical appraisal of new measures that involve outsourcing comprehensive vital services to troops to civil organizations and the introduction of an experimental five-day working week with two days off for personnel," he said.

At the current stage of the experiment, civil organizations provide catering, laundry services, as well as services for the housing and utilities infrastructure of military towns, organize leisure activities for servicemen and also deal with a number of procurement issues for the SMD troops, Shcheblanin said.

Catering services have been outsourced to civil organizations for three brigade in Ulan-Ude, Aleisk and Yurga, as well as a military hospital in Chita.
