MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax) - Russia adheres to the Cypriot settlement on the basis of the UN Security Council resolution, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told a Monday press conference in Moscow.
"Russia keeps working on the fair and viable settlement on Cyprus, on the basis of the UN Security Council resolution and consent between Cypriot Greek and Turkish communities. We will continue active participation in the international search for ways of comprehensive Cypriot settlement acceptable for both sides," he said.
Lavrov lauded the development of Russia-Cyprus relations. Cyprus is a main investor in Russia, and Moscow hopes for further cooperation, he said.
"As you know, Cyprus is a leading investor in the Russian economy. We would like further broadening of these relations, primarily investments in innovations and high technologies," he said.
Russia and Cyprus have agreed to intensify the activity of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, which will hold its next meeting in Nicosia in early fall, Lavrov said.
