MINSK. June 24 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan's ex-President Kurmanbek Bakiyev said introducing a peacekeeping force from the Collective Security Treaty Organization would have helped neutralize the conflict faster.
"Perhaps it would have been worthwhile to send the CSTO's peacekeeping force to Kyrgyzstan. The conflict would have been localized faster and with fewer losses," Bakiyev said at a news conference in Minsk on Wednesday.
"If UN or CSTO peacekeeping forces had been sent to Kyrgyzstan, the scope of losses would have been smaller," Bakiyev said.
He noted that the charter does not allow the CSTO to intervene in its members' internal affairs.
