MOSCOW. June 25 (Interfax) - U.S. Ambassador to Russia John R. Beyrle has urged bloggers not to see any malicious intent behind the visit by the Russian Varyag cruiser to the U.S. coast.
"I have read quite strong comments in both U.S. and Russian blogs: what kind of a signal is Russia sending by dispatching its warship following the president?" the head of the U.S. diplomatic mission wrote on his blog.
"In reality, such friendly visits by warships during visits by high-level leaders are practiced quite frequently around the world. So my advice is: relax," Beyrle said.
The high-ranking U.S. diplomat was sharing his impressions of the visit by the Russian president to Silicon Valley, where the Skolkovo project was discussed.
"I am closely following the debate over the Skolkovo project and I agree with U.S. businesswoman Esther Dyson (I saw her today at lunch), who argued in her recent article that a Russian Silicon Valley should not be built but precisely cultivated as a garden," the U.S. ambassador said.
One Russian student told Medvedev at Stanford that, " Silicon Valley is a state of mind," the ambassador wrote. "All this is true, and these ideas must be reflected in the position of Russian officials who made Skolkovo their priority project," Beyrle wrote.
"Equal attention should be paid to the judicial reform (as President Medvedev has stressed), tax stimuli and the creation of modern laboratories," he wrote.
During his speech at Stanford University the Russian president did not use any piece of paper with prepared speech highlights, Beyrle also wrote in his blog. "It is remarkable that the president did not read a text prepared beforehand, but instead took his new iPad with him to the podium and occasionally checked it during the speech," the ambassador said.
