TSKHINVALI. July 16 (Interfax) - South Ossetian President Eduard Kokoity is due to set off on an official visit to Nicaragua and Venezuela on July 17, during which he plans to sign a set of bilateral agreements, South Ossetia's Foreign Minister Murat Dzhioyev told Interfax on Thursday evening.
"His Latin American tour will continue for one week - from July 17 to July 25. It will be the first official visit by South Ossetia's head to these countries," Dzhioyev said.
"On July 17, the South Ossetian delegation will attend celebrations marking the 31st anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution. They will also travel to Caracas at the invitation of the president of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, to hold a series of bilateral meetings, including with the head of state," the South Ossetian official said.
President of Abkhazia Sergei Bagapsh confirmed earlier that he would travel to Nicaragua and Venezuela for an official visit on Friday.
Nicaragua recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states on September 3, 2008, and Venezuela did the same on September 10, 2009.
In July, the ambassadors of these two Latin American countries handed over credentials to the presidents of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
