Russia eyes non-GLONASS navigation device market closure - Yevtushenko

MOSCOW. July 16 (Interfax) - The market in Russia for navigational devices that do not incorporate GLONASS chips ought to be closed and will be at some point, the main owner of AFK Sistema Vladimir Yevtushenko said during a Friday meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

AFK Sistema holds a controlling stake in the federal navigation operator Navigation-Information Systems (NIS).

"We've had talks with practically all suppliers of such devices, like Nokia, Siemens, and Motorola. They fully understand that we will be closing the market for devices without GLONASS chips," Yevtushenko said. "They just need us to do this legislatively," he said.
