Wildfires do not threaten Strategic Rocket Force facilities – Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - The wildfires raging in European Russia will not affect the safety of the facilities of the Strategic Rocket Force, the Defense Ministry has announced.

"The special solutions applied in nuclear arsenals, missiles, launchers and other key elements of missile systems guarantee their safety even in case of disasters such as the strike of a lighting, a short circuit or fire," press secretary of the Defense Ministry department for the Strategic Rocket Force Col. Vadim Koval told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

He said the fire risk in the areas of deployment of the force's formations "remains stable, no pockets of fire have been registered near the launching positions."

He said that the force took advanced steps to create safety belts and remove dry grass along the perimeter of army units. Additional water reservoirs have been added. The grounds and stocks of hazardous facilities have been filled with water, and the facilities themselves are patrolled round the clock. "All this is should significantly reduce the risk of fires at the launch sites," Koval said.
