Criminal case opened after investigative department was burgled in Moscow

MOSCOW. Aug 31 (Interfax) - A criminal case based on robbery charges has been opened after the investigative department for very serious criminal cases of the Moscow regional division of the federal prosecutor's Investigative Committee was broken into last night, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told Interfax.

"A criminal case based on robbery charges was opened into the crime," Markin said.

Only a TV set and a video camera were stolen from the building, he said.

"Neither criminal case files nor material evidence was stolen. Investigators believe that the robbers were interested only in items of value," Markin said.

Three unknown men wearing masks broke into the investigative department's building located on Rusakovskaya Street in Moscow at around 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday. They tied up a security guard and broke into 18 offices, where they opened 25 safes, he said.

"Investigators and officers of the Investigative Committee's own security service are working at the scene," Markin said.
