High-ranking U.S. diplomat to discuss regional security issues in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE. Aug 31 (Interfax) - U.S Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake is arriving in Dushanbe on Tuesday on a two-day visit, a spokesman for the U.S embassy in Dushanbe told Interfax.

Blake will be received by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, he said.

The parties will discuss problems of security in Afghanistan and in the region in general, and also the level of American-Tajik cooperation, he also said.

Afghanistan and Tajikistan have a 1,344-kilometer joint border. Dushanbe has said on many occasions that it wants Afghanistan to be a stable country.

Blake will also meet with representatives of political parties and of civil society.

The high-ranking American diplomat will fly to Moscow early on September 2.
