MOSCOW/MINSK. Sept 14 (Interfax) - A video posted on the Internet in Belarus showing an unknown man claiming that the Russian authorities plan to "physically eliminate" Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is not worthy of comment, the Russian prime minister's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told Interfax.
"One hardly should pay attention to such nonsense or comment on it," Peskov said.
"Rather, it resembles pre-election schizophrenia," he said.
In the aforementioned video, an unknown man identifies himself as a former Russian special service officer and says that he has "reliable facts" suggesting preparations for a possible assassination attempt.
"I am absolutely certain of it because I have reliable facts," says the man, whose face cannot be seen clearly and whose voice is changed beyond recognition.
He claims that a group of former Russian special service officers was set up in June to carry out this task.
"Several scenarios for Lukashenko's elimination have already been tested, including a car or a plane crash, poisoning through a present or a letter, as well as a sniper," the man said.
However, "a large-scale terrorist attack during a mass event involving Lukashenko, who will have to attend a lot of such events during the election campaign, is being considered as the most realistic scenario," he said.
"In order to create an atmosphere of panic, a series of intimidating acts using explosive devices are expected to take place in Belarus within the next few months. Scenarios involving the abduction of well known people are being worked out," the man said.
Specialists from this group plan to contaminate some Belarusian food exports with radioactive substances in order to trigger panic around Belarusian products, the man said.
For their part, several Belarusian political scientists said that the publication of this video on the Internet only confirms that the "information war" between Moscow and Minsk continues.
