Death of Russian specialists in Indonesia ‘an accident’ - embassy

JAKARTA. Sept 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Embassy in Indonesia has said that the theory about intentional poisoning of three Russian engineers was baseless.

"We regard the demise of three Russian citizens as an accident. The theory put forward by several Russia media outlets about the intentional poisoning is baseless," head of the Consular Section at the Russian Embassy in Jakarta Vladimir Pronin said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television channel on Thursday.

"The embassy has yet to receive a formal written report from Indonesian doctors about what caused the death of the three Russian specialists," he said.

"At the same time we took note of the [statements] made by the chief medic of the Indonesian national police and published in the local press, that the Russians died from methanol poisoning. We are not denying this statement, but nor can we confirm it since the forensic test was not carried out by Russian specialists," Pronin said.

It was reported earlier that three maintenance specialists from the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Production Association (KnAAPO), a Sukhoi company, died at the Hasanuddin air base in Indonesia. The KnAAPO specialists were part of a group that provided post-sale maintenance for Su aircraft in the service of the Indonesian Air Force. The team of 12 KnAAPO specialists had arrived to the Indonesian air base on September 5.
