MOSCOW. Oct 29 (Interfax) - The introduction of civil and criminal appeal procedures in Russia will require the appointment of about 1,500 judges, President Dmitry Medvedev said.
"Serious organizational work" should be accomplished and "financial resources" should be spent before the civil and criminal appeal procedures come into force in Russia on January 1, 2012 and January 1, 2013, respectively, Medvedev said at a meeting with judges on Friday.
"In 2011-2012, we will have to train and nominate for appointment around 1,500 judges and a significant number of court employees, as well as to implement serious changes in courts of all levels," the president said.
Other problems should be discussed as well, including ways to make Russia's penal legislation more humane and to promote cooperation with European partners, he said.
