MAKHACHKALA, Russia. November 1 (Interfax) - Bomb disposal experts on Friday defused a powerful bomb that had been found lying behind a building in a nonresidential part of a street on the outskirts of Makhachkala, capital of the Dagestan republic in the North Caucasus, said a spokesman for Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee.
"The mine was ready [to be used] and was apparently hidden for further use," the spokesman told Interfax.
The bomb, estimated to be as powerful as 4 kilograms of TNT, was filled with shrapnel and fitted with a remote-controlled detonator.
