FSKN stunned by Afghan authorities' reaction to U.S.-Russian joint anti-drug raid

MOSCOW. November 1 (Interfax) - The Russian Drug Control Agency (FSKN) is bewildered by the reaction of the Afghan authorities with regard to the international anti-drug operation conducted recently in that country.

"The Afghan authorities were informed of the operation, this country's forces were involved in the operation, which is why it is unclear why there is such a reaction," a source from the agency told Interfax on Sunday.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai criticized the U.S.-Russian special anti-drug operation which shut down several large drug laboratories.

Criticisms and demands for explanation are contained in Karzai's letter sent out by the Afghan presidential staff.

The raid on the border with Pakistan was conducted without the Afghan authorities' permission and knowledge, the letter said.
